5 Main In-Vehicle Components That Have To Be Integrated With The Fleet Video Management Software

The cloud-based video management software is rapidly becoming an inevitable part of fleet transportation systems. This is evident from the estimate provided by Markets & Markets, which states that the vehicle surveillance market will grow from USD 49.93 Billion in 2015 to USD 103.21 Billion by 2022, at a CAGR of 11.1% between 2016 and 2022. With such a high estimate of market growth, traditional fleet management companies are looking towards VMS service providers to offer highly advanced, customizable & affordable VMS solution for their fleets.

The fleet management companies operating across different industries for varied services & operations find it challenging to identify an appropriate VMS solution for their deployed fleets. Although, many vendors offer a highly customizable VMS solution, it is always advisable for the recipient organization to understand the proper functionalities of the connected devices or systems in the offered solution. This helps them to exactly map their requirements of Video Management Solution and prevent them from installing extra components or a function deficient system in their vehicles.

In-vehicle video surveillance projects are complex in nature which makes calls for understanding the compatibility and usability of each system integrated in the VMS solution.  Here, we will discuss the devices/systems, that are installed in a vehicle as part of Video surveillance solution for fleet management.

1. Fleet Camera Systems

New age fleet cameras capture ultra-high HD visuals from vehicles and make them available for the video management software to monitor real time activities in and around the vehicle. Fleet cameras can be classified into in-vehicle surveillance cameras and out-vehicle surveillance cameras. Other than that, two-way dash cams are also available for capturing visuals of the road, from the front, while simultaneously monitoring activities of the driver. Some recent fleet cameras are designed to operate even in low light conditions and perform events-based recording.

2. Mobile Network Video Recorder (NVR)

Mobile NVRs are IP network video recording devices for vehicles designed to work in harsh vehicular environment. These robust devices allow fleet video management software to remotely access live and recorded video as and when required. It also sends events-based alerts from the vehicle to VMS software and enable connectivity of vehicular devices through 3G/4G/Wi-Fi/WLAN. The latest NVRs in the market are equipped with GPS receivers and G sensors.

3. Blind Spot Detection System

Blind spots are the areas closest to the vehicle, which are out of sight from the driver’s vision, any failure to detect any motion in such regions is the major source of accidents. Consequently, blind spot detection systems are becoming an integral component of in-vehicle surveillance devices, alerting the driver in case of any movement detected in the blind spot area. This technology works on lasers, radars, and high-resolution cameras, which constantly monitor the spaces in and around the vehicles and alert the driver when they sense any obstacle or movement in the blind spot. The device can be integrated with fleet video management software to record the events due to blind spot detection.

4. Automatic Vehicle Localization (AVL) System

AVL systems are very precise GPS-based location-tracking systems used to identify the routes and track the in-transit vehicles. AVL systems work in close integration with the VMS software to help the fleet manager gain real time updates of a vehicle’s location on the map. The system also records and sends the events in transit, like driving time and halt time of vehicles, hence optimizing fleet schedules.

5. Accelerometer & G Sensors

The prime objective of fleet management companies is the safety of the vehicles in transit, wherein an accelerometer plays a very important role. They are used to identify various events like speeding, harsh braking, hard acceleration & cornering and performs driver’s behavior monitoring. The events identified by accelerometer are recorded simultaneously with the events from Dash cams, GPS systems, Fleet Cameras & displayed instantly on the VMS system. The data generated from the accelerometer can be used in checking the fuel wastage; reducing the chances of accidents & wear & tear of vehicle parts.

Other than above-mentioned components, there are many other products like display monitors, door sensors, mics, speakers, etc. which also contribute to the fleet VMS solution. In this market, in-vehicle surveillance components serve as a combination of customized product packages according to the industry, nature of business & fleet size of the companies & their adequate knowledge will help the companies to choose the right components for their Fleet Video Management Solutions.
