HSM and Cryptographic Software Engineering

Development, integration, testing and validation of HSM firmware,MCAL crypto drivers,
secure boot and OTA to meet ISO 21434, ISO 26262 and UNECE R155/R156 requirements.

Automotive architectures are consolidating onto high-performance ECUs for compute-intensive applications, and security has moved from an optional feature to a delivery requirement. Semiconductor vendors are now expected to supply hardware security module firmware, AUTOSAR cryptographic drivers, bootloaders and secure update paths alongside the silicon itself, documented, validated and ready for Tier-1 integration.

eInfochips provides embedded software and system integration for this layer and supports it across the production lifecycle. Our engineering covers HSM firmware and MCAL crypto driver development, AUTOSAR security stack and bootloader integration, secure boot, key and certificate management, and secure updates for both application and firmware. Our scope extends to verification on FPGA, simulation tools and production silicon, and to the safety and cybersecurity documentation set issued with the software.

Case Study

Development and Integration of AUTOSAR MCAL Drivers and HSM Firmware for a Radar SoC

Key Client Challenges

  • Complex development and integration of HSM firmware and crypto drivers, requiring compliance with stringent automotive regulations and standards
  • Customization of security features and integration at all levels
  • A variety of target hardware platforms (FPGA and ASIC), each affecting security requirements and vulnerability exposure

Solution Delivered by eInfochips

eInfochips developed the HSM firmware for the device security core, the AUTOSAR crypto drivers for its application core, and the interface between them. The crypto driver was integrated with the customer’s Vector AUTOSAR stack, covering SecOC and MACsec Key Agreement. A secure over-the-air update was supported for both the application and the HSM firmware. The package was validated on both FPGA and production silicon at unit, component and integration level. Development followed Automotive SPICE v4 across SWE 1 to 6, with ISO 26262 functional safety and ISO/SAE 21434 cybersecurity applied from requirements through to qualification.

Benefits Delivered

  • Custom security features built and integrated which were not available in the standard AUTOSAR package
  • Took on the integration and on-target validation, sparing the customer both the effort and the risk
