Additional Processing Power With New Embedded Development Platforms From eInfochips

This post was first featured in Snapdragon Blog authored by Leon Farasati.

eInfochips recently introduced Eragon600 – a development platform based on the Qualcomm® Snapdragonâ„¢ 600. This new development platform helps support embedded system developers across a variety of industry segments including industrial, security and surveillance, infotainment, avionics (in-flight entertainment), display systems (digital signage, smart vending), and Internet of Everything (IoE) systems, with applications in smart cities, smart grid, smart transit and smart factories. People got their first peek at the Eragon600 System on Module (SoM) and the development kit at Embedded World 2015 conference in Nuremberg, Germany, where eInfochips showcased an interactive digital signage solution based on Snapdragon 600 processor. With real-time video analytics captured from an IP camera, eInfochips measured the attention span and popularity of the signage content, and updated it in real-time. The setup also included an AllJoynâ„¢ based mobile application to empower viewers to interact with the digital signage content.

The Eragon600 SoM and development kit are available and ready to ship to developers interested in evaluating and prototyping the Snapdragon 600 processor for their upcoming projects. eInfochips offers multiple configurations of Eragon600, with several performance, feature set, and cost options. The Eragon600 SoM comes in two flavors, with 512 MB (EIC-Q600-100 SoM) and 2 GB (EIC-Q600-200 SoM) memory options. Developers can integrate the production-ready SoM on their embedded systems design taking advantage of its scalable performance and rapid time to market.

The carrier card that houses the Eragon600 SoM on the evaluation kit also comes in 3 flavors. The basic version (EIC-Q600-210 Dev Kit) comes with a core set of interfaces and connectivity options including Ethernet, USB, HDMI, MIPI-CSI, Serial, MicroSD, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The advanced version (EIC-Q600-220 Dev Kit) has additional features such as GPS, MPCIe (USB), SATA, Speaker, Mic and ZigBee support. The topline version (EIC-Q600-230 Dev Kit) is complete with an Industrial design chassis and an LCD screen for a comprehensive development environment. Additional details on all three configurations is available in the Eragon600 Datasheet.

Our relationship with eInfochips began when they went on to port a video conferencing application to Linux based on Ubuntu running on Snapdragon 600 processor (using Qt5, Sofia SIP and Gstreamer) managing to improve latency by 500 percent. They also hosted a technical session at the 2014 Uplinqâ„¢ Developer Conference walking developers through porting of Ubuntu Linux on Snapdragon 600 processor. Today eInfochips offers a broad set of expertise and resources (1400+ hardware and software engineers) to embedded developers, and brings a solid track record of 500+ product designs over the last two decades. Their product expertise spans multiple industries including medical devices, robotics, industrial automation, automotive infotainment, video surveillance, aerospace, multimedia processing and connected home. They offer engineering services in custom hardware and software development for developers and companies looking to accelerate their product development cycles using Qualcomm Snapdragon processors.
