Executive summary
The client is a multinational conglomerate headquartered in Ireland and a leader in providing HVAC, fire, and security equipment. Amidst the slowdown of the Covid-19 pandemic to facilitate the safe return to work of their employees and the adherence to the prescribed health guidelines, the client wanted to upgrade their access control system.
Their existing 4-door system was built on legacy architecture, and it lacked security against cyber threats. eInfochips undertook a full product redesign. The control board hardware was upgraded based on the STM32 platform. Modern connectivity features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and PoE++ were enabled, and the firmware was moved from WinCE to Linux for better security. Key protections such as OSDP with AES encryption, secure boot, and tamper detection were also introduced. Pre-compliance and certification testing were conducted for various global standards ensuring a market-ready product that was better equipped against cyber-attacks. The redesign extended product lifecycle by 8 years, and the BoM optimization effort reduced hardware costs by 50% without compromising security.
