Edge Intelligence: Enabling Intelligence beyond Cloud

Description

We are seeing exponential growth of devices, all thanks to the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and hardware. This is making dramatic impact on conventional household devices (smartwatches, smart speakers, etc.) and industrial settings (surveillance cameras, robotic arms, production conveyer belts etc.). We are now entering an era where devices can independently think, act, and respond in smarter ways. It’s now possible to capture a massive amount of relevant data more efficiently. Edge Intelligence or Intelligent edge refers to processing and analysis of data, close to its point of generation. In this paper, we will explore how edge intelligence can truly realize the Industrial revolution viz. Industry 4.0. It’s a combination of cyber-physical systems, the Internet of things, cloud computing, and cognitive computing.

Highlights

  • Introduction to edge intelligence
  • What is edge intelligence?
  • Why Edge Analytics had to evolve to Edge Intelligence?
  • Components in Edge Intelligence
  • Challenges for Edge Intelligence
