3D Eyewear Glasses Development on Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 820

Executive Summary

The client, a US-based consumer electronics company, was looking to develop its 3D eyewear. It found Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 820 (APQ8096) to be the most appropriate chipset for the product and hence was aiming to migrate to it from the current design. The client wanted the 3D eyewear glasses to be battery operated, have full HD OLED displays for each eye with required interfaces, and a head tracking user interface along with a motion tracking sensor. To achieve this, the client needed a design partner with prior experience in delivering solutions based on Qualcomm® processors, who could not only support eyewear hardware development but also help with software and certification testing.

After evaluating the client’s requirements, eInfochips captured all the functional and non-functional requirements and proposed to deliver a complete solution. eInfochips took up the complete development into two phases – Alpha and Beta, along with support for pre-compliance certification testing as per FCC (Federal Communications Commission) Part 15 Subpart C, and also helped with documentation.

Project Highlights

  • Two Full HD OLED Displays for Each Eye
  • 360-degree and 3D SBS Video Support
  • Head Tracking User Interface with a Motion Tracking Sensor
  • Wi-Fi & Bluetooth Connectivity
  • Support for Multiple Sensors
