Executive Summary
MIL-STD-1553 is a serial data bus defined by the US Department of Defence that specifies the mechanical, electrical, and functional aspects of the technology. Originally designed for use in military avionics, it has been used for the past thirty years in spacecraft onboard data handling subsystems in both military and civilian settings. A data bus allows for the exchange of data between different systems, much like a Local Area Network (LAN) in the personal computer industry
