Intrinsically Safe IO Module

Executive Summary

Increased automation installations in harsh and explosive environments have created the demand for more reliable and Intrinsically Safe industrial equipments. Engineering these equipments require expetise in multiple domains like Mechanical Design, Electronic Design, Firmware Development and Automation Protocols.

Our client, a leader in process automation, sensed an opportunity in building intrinsically safe industrial products. They were facing challenges in implementation of INTERBUS protocol, which is used for serial data communication between control systems and spatially distributed I/O modules connected to sensors and actuators. Another major market requirement was to improve the current 9 years Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) specifications.

ATEX and IECEx certified intrinsically safe industrial I/O modules were developed with support for INTERBUS protocol. Instead of Optical isolation, Magnetic isolation was used for data transfer on I/O module circuitry which increased MTBF to 16+ years.
