1. What
platform ASICs are and when to use them
Although system designers in need of custom logic solutions
are increasingly faced with new technical challenges, they are armed
with new advancements and choices in custom silicon offerings. One
of those options is the choice between cell-based ASIC and platform
ASIC solutions. More...

2. FPGAs Supplant Processors and ASICs In Advanced Imaging Applications
Used primarily as either an ASIC prototyping platform or
as a time-to-market stopgap until the company can produce a processor-based
or ASIC-based system, the FPGA has only begun to prove its worth
as an end-product solution. More...

3. How to boost verification
productivity
The amount of time spent on verification now exceeds the
amount of time spent on design, comprising up to 70 percent of the
total development effort, and the cost of failure continues to increase.
ABV is critical because this methodology allows the designer to
discover and diagnose deeply buried design flaws, which impact the
ability to deliver products in competitive time-to-market windows.

4. Reducing
false errors in clock-domain crossing analysis
One of the biggest challenges of system-on-chip (SOC) designs
is that different blocks operate on independent clocks. Integrating
these blocks via the processor bus, memory ports, peripheral busses,
and other interfaces can be troublesome because unpredictable behavior
can result when the asynchronous interfaces are not properly synchronized.

5. How to
select verification IP
One of the first things designers look for in their potential vendors
is an in-depth knowledge of the relevant protocol specifications.
A vendor's VIP portfolio, quality, design process and expert technical
support are the elements that are sometimes missed and end up sinking
chips. More...

Technology Showcase
The KVM (key-Board,
video and mouse) switch enables a single key-board, video
monitor and mouse to control one server at a time. These switches
use Internet Protocol allowing remote access and control of
the server over the Internet. So, a single use IP switch can
be used to access and control a room or rack full of servers.
