Accelerated Technology and eInfochips form partnership to provide support for IEEE 802.11b, or Wi-Fi, to Nucleus Developers in Wireless Markets

ATI’s strategic partnership marks first step into wireless ethernet market

FEBRUARY 13, 2002, MOBILE, AL and McLean, VA - Accelerated Technology, Inc.™ (ATI), the leader of source code and non-royalty based Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) software, and eInfochips Inc., provider of complete embedded systems solutions, today announced that they have formed a strategic partnership to provide Nucleus customers with a royalty-free embedded software solution for IEEE 802.11b, also known as wireless ethernet. Accelerated Technology and eInfochips have agreed to jointly market the IEEE 802.11b LLC Driver for Nucleus worldwide to developers in the wireless market.

The IEEE 802.11b LLC driver for Nucleus takes advantage of the modularity, flexibility and ease-of-use of ATI’s Nucleus software on one hand and the robustness and reliability of eInfochips’ LLC driver on the other. As the number of WLAN devices continues to increase, the IEEE 802.11b LLC driver for Nucleus can be used to drive MAC layers implemented in Wireless LAN cards that are used in PCs, laptop computers, high end PDAs or other compatible devices.

"eInfochips is an expert in the field of providing solutions encompassing system level software and networking related embedded software development. We are pleased that they are working with us to provide an affordable and robust solution. Because the source code for Nucleus is well-documented, engineers at eInfochips integrated Nucleus into their product quickly and easily. I am excited about this opportunity to provide our customers with a driver that has Dynamic MAC configuration ability and is seamlessly integrated with Wireless LAN cards,” said Neil Henderson, president of Accelerated Technology, Inc.

“Wireless networking has brought more freedom to the enterprise and the business Wireless LAN (WLAN) market has remained remarkable over the course of time, with a growth rate exceeding expectations, even amidst the economic downturn. The extremely fast growing number of small and medium businesses moving to embrace the WLANs makes the need for robust and reliable device drivers a mandatory requirement. Partnering with Accelerated Technology provides eInfochips with a great opportunity to promote its WLAN LLC driver in a wider market. The Nucleus user receives seamless integration and the modular architecture and flexible design time configuration options allow to meet the system requirements without the overhead,” said Pratul Shroff, CEO of eInfochips,Inc.

The eInfochips WLAN LLC driver is designed and developed to fully integrate with ATI’s rich and full-featured Nucleus PLUS kernel and Nucleus NET networking environment. The modular design provides ease of customization and is effective in ensuring shorter time to market. It supports up to 11 Mbps data rate and has high level, robust Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Written in ANSI ‘C’, it facilitates quick migration and can be readily ported to work with any processor and operating system and 802.11 hardware. It also provides the feasibility of enhancements and upgrades to conform to latest specification revision.

Nucleus NET, a scalable embedded TCP/IP stack, is the foundation of ATI’s networking product family. It includes all the essential protocols, necessary to take advantage of the Internet such as: TCP, UDP, IP, ICMP, IGMP, ARP, RARP, BOOTP, DNS (resolver), DHCP (client), RIP/RIP II and TFTP (client). Nucleus NET seamlessly integrates within ATI’s multitasking environment, minimizes the amount of time the application spends in the protocol stack, provides a well-defined driver interface, supports many IP addresses and many MAC layer drivers and is tested against the major TCP/IP protocols commonly available.
