Since our customer did not have an engineering team, eInfochips India team was associated with the project of the development of Dual - Car & Marine Navigation System. Dual - Car & Marine Navigation is High-end Navigation System with multimedia features. It has ARM Based Hardware Design with audio/ video, GPS, SONAR and other standard interfaces with build in GPS Module. It was built-in GPS Module with 240x320 Resolution color LCD.
The system is transflective, TFT 5” Sunlight 100% Visible, backlit with EMI/EMC, NEMA Compliant Hardware. eInfochips was associated with the development of Navigation solution project right from the feasibility study to mass production. eInfochips CMMI Level 3 processes enabled smooth project execution across a Global program management since our customer was based in Europe, while the end customer was in Japan, the manufacturing happened in Malaysia while our development and project management teams were in India.

The benefits of electronic charting to the safety of navigation have created a large and enthusiastic market that continues to grow each year.

The Challenge

  • Understanding the complexity of the project through feasibility study
  • Designing the system to bring into the flexibility for component selection of board and CPLD programming for mixing the image of GPS and Echo sounder
  • Developing adequate knowledge in multiple sectors to build the system properly

The Solution

Design & Development
As time to market was critical, the product development was divided into different phases. In phase-1, emphasis was given on the system performance issues and meeting basic minimum features. More software features were added in subsequent releases based on the market requirements.

With this approach eInfochips has made the system success so as that on every phase the customer could address the needs of the market.
eInfochips’ team carried out feasibility study to understand the system requirements and based on this detailed study, the expert team of eInfochips made the component selection which made the system efficient. Team eInfochips designed and developed the main board for the system. As per the various features of the system the board had to be capable of supporting multiple features and at the end of development, team eInfochips has succeeded in incorporating all the requirements.
Our Customer had passed all the responsibilities of the project to eInfochips, so, component selection of main board and CPLD programming for mixing the image of GPS and Echo sounder was critical which eInfochips did successfully.

  • Design and development of the boot loader and hardware diagnostic program.
  • Porting of Embedded Linux for board which was very critical for the system
  • At the final state development of drivers like LCD, Keypad, NAND, SD Card, Buzzer, USB, UART had to be developed in shorter period of time and with exact time line eInfochips has developed these drivers successfully that gives good look to the system.

Testing

  • As the system architecture was very complex in nature, comprehensive testing was very important for successful release
    • To address this, eInfochips has developed test application to test various hardware with the use of device drivers

This proper testing of the system has helped the customer immensely in the successful release of the product    and expert team of eInfochips has supported the customer in mass production to give an edge in market.
